What is XEOMIN®?
Xeomin is a prescription medication, much like Botox or Dysport, used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar frown lines between the eyes in adults.
How Does XEOMIN® Work?
When you squint or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. These lines that occur due to facial mimics are referred to as dynamic lines. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines.
Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in Xeomin – is used in facial aesthetic treatment to treat dynamic lines like glabellar frown lines. It acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, Xeomin can temporarily reduce the frown lines on your forehead between your eyes.
What Makes XEOMIN® Different?
There are some significant features of Xeomin that set it apart from other well-known neurotoxins.
According to the publication, New Beauty, “Xeomin is formulated with less or no surrounding proteins so it’s suggested that it will be less likely for the body to develop antibodies. Xeomin is also the only FDA-approved botulinum toxin that does not require refrigeration. The longer shelf life is said to be a big plus to doctors who do a lot of injections and have limited refrigerated space.”
The durability, amount of time it takes to inject and price range are very similar to other known neurotoxins like Botox or Dysport.
