Juvederm Vollure XC is an FDA-approved Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal filler which adds subtle volume to specific facial areas affected by aging. The S.A.F.E. System for FUE
Dr. LeBeau continuously strives to improve his techniques of hair restoration and provide better results for his patients. He recently began using the S.A.F.E. system in most of his FUE surgeries. The S.A.F.E. System was developed by Dr. James A. Harris, surgeon, medical director and founder of the Hair Sciences Center of Colorado. Dr. Harris designed the Harris S.A.F.E. System to address specific issues he encountered using the traditional sharp punch for FUE procedures.
The S.A.F.E. System uses blunt dissection to isolate the follicular units from the surrounding tissue. The device allows the physician to perform precise Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) with minimal damage to follicles. Because of the blunt dissection, more intact follicular units are able to be harvested in every hair transplant. The S.A.F.E. system has been proven to have a lower transaction rate (cutting intact hair follicles below the skin level) than other methods of FUE. Therefore, a higher yield of hair follicles can be expected from FUE transplants with S.A.F.E. method.
The machine powers a slowly rotating blunt punch that slows down even further as it passes deeper into the tissue, thereby minimizing rotational injury and trauma to the grafts. The initial rotation speed is just enough to allow the instrument to penetrate the skin and the slower speed allows the dull punch to pass deeper into the scalp and separate the follicular units from the surrounding dermis, causing minimal transection (inadvertent cutting of the follicles).
The isolated follicular unit grafts are then removed with forceps, sorted and counted under a microscope, and then planted into the recipient area using standard placing techniques.

There is a lower transaction rate (around 2.8%) so healthier, usable follicular unit grafts could be produced.
