What is Hair Restoration?
Hair restoration encompasses both the surgical and non-surgical methods used to counteract or halt the symptoms of hair loss in men and women. Several methods may be used individually or in combination to produce the desired results depending on a person’s specific situation. Finding the right hair restoration solution can often be difficult but it is an important decision that can improve your life in unimaginable ways. One size does not fit all types of hair loss and you need to understand the options available to make an informed decision.
Getting straight answers about hair loss treatments for men can be almost as frustrating as the hair loss itself.
Some men are excellent candidates for hair transplant surgery, others prefer the lifestyle advantages of the hair replacement process, and some simply want to prevent any further loss or thinning of their hair. No matter what pattern of hair loss you are experiencing, it’s an ongoing process that will continue to evolve over time.
Dr. LeBeau’s office offers a variety of treatment modalities, including non-surgical and surgical options.
Millions of women suffer from hair loss, over 30 million in the U.S. alone. And while most treatments available today seem to be designed with male pattern hair loss in mind, the good news is that there are safe, proven treatments designed especially for women.
Women’s hair–and women’s experiences with hair loss–are very different. That’s why Dr. LeBeau will initially investigate the reason for your specific hair loss and will review all the options available to you.
Hair Restoration Options:
PROPECIA® is available by prescription from Dr. LeBeau and is a once-a-day pill developed to treat mild to moderate male pattern hair loss, a hereditary condition that causes receding hairlines, thinning and/or balding on the top and front of the scalp. Propecia is proven effective for treating hair loss in men only, although, some women may be candidates for Propecia (finasteride).
Low Level Laser Technology (LLLT)
The “The Cold Laser”, also known as low level laser technology, has more recently come into use as an option for non-surgical hair restoration treatment for patten hair loss as well as a post transplant adjunctive treatment.
The LaserCap® using Low Level Laser Technology (LLLT) can help both men and women of all ages who suffer from hair loss by emitting pulses of laser light energy to the scalp to stimulate hair follicles and improve the circulation of blood in the scalp, thus, encouraging hair growth.
Robotic Hair Transplants- The Artas System
Dr. LeBeau uses the ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant System, which is an interactive, computer assisted equipment which employs image guidance to enhance the precision and quality of hair follicle harvesting. Performed as an outpatient procedure in Dr. LeBeau’s office, FUE robotic hair transplant moves healthy, functioning follicles to the areas of the patient’s scalp most impacted by hair loss. The newly implanted hairs develop their own blood supply, begin to grow and new hairs are seen as early as three months after completion of the transplant. The new hair will continue to grow over the course of a full year, making the change in the patient’s appearance gradually noticeable to others. There is very little healing and down time is only several days. There is no resultant linear scar as happens with other methods of hair restoration, because there is no incision with the ARTAS system. This procedure can be performed on both men and women.
Hair loss is a multifactorial condition that may occur as a result of medications, aging, genetics, and traumatic injury to the scalp with subsequent scarring. Hair loss can affect both men and women of all ages and ethnicities. This hair loss may present in variety of ways such as common male pattern baldness, known as androgenic alopecia, patchy spots or generalized thinning of the hair over the entire scalp.
